I was talking to my friend who used to be part of a successful small business out here in NY. I was telling him what I do (I work in SEO) and he told me his company used to pay google $400 a month to rank first for the keyword they specified. I told him that’s impossible and Google has never accepted payment for organic search results but he insisted on it – he told me his company saw a lot more traffic because of it. Is this true? He’s not the type of person to lie or make up crazy stories about this kind of stuff, so as much as I’m skeptical I’m more curious if this was ever the case. Any info out there?
