Monitor calibration tool?

I do some web design and photography stuff as a hobby and occasionally a side job, and something I’ve noticed is that my TN LCD monitors, well, suck. I can’t afford to buy two new $500 IPS monitors, but even if I did I’ve read that some sort of calibration tool is necessary to get the colors right. So, what I’m wondering is whether buying a monitor calibration tool will make my TN panels more accurate, and also what tool I should buy? (two popular ones seem to be the spyder3express and spyder3pro..).
